Architects / Designers
When choosing an engineer for your project there are several issues to consider from an architectural standpoint. Here are a few keys points to think about:
Accuracy
Obviously, this is integral. Can the engineer take the architectural drawings and generate a set of structural drawings that remain true to your vision, while at the same time creating a structure that can be built in the field?
Budgetary Constraints
All projects have a budget, from the smallest to the most extravagant. Can the engineer produce a structure that is structurally sound, and also budget friendly for your client? Meeting the client’s budgetary needs is of utmost importance, because a happy client is a return client.
Timeline
Easy enough question: Can the engineer produce structural documents within a reasonably determined amount of time? There is nothing more frustrating than promising your client completed construction documents and not being able to deliver because of a sub-consultants’ poor time-management.
Reasonable Fees
Bottom line: Can the engineer deliver on all of these key items for a reasonable fee? In this rough economic climate we are all faced with the question of, “What is the lowest price that I can complete this project for, while remaining profitable?” Any fees that are paid to sub-consultants cut into your profit, so it becomes critical to find an engineer that can meet all your expectations at a price that will maximize your profit.
